DECREASE STITCHES
These photos and instruction show double crochet stitch being used. Instructions would be the same for other stitches too. Decreasing in this way is creating 1 stitch in the same space where you would ordinarily create 2 stitches.

Insert the hook through both loops from stitch on previous row, yarn over, drawing the hook backwards and pull yarn through loops (there are now 2 loops on hook)

Insert the hook through the loops from next stitch on previous row. Wrap yarn over hook

Drawing the hook backwards pull yarn through (there are now 3 loops on hook)

Wrap yarn over hook, drawing the hook backwards through all 3 loops on the hook

One loop remains on hook and stitch is completed. There is now 1 stitch, in the place of 2 stitches
